a no-fuss guide to preparing good food that will change the way endurance athletes eat.

That's the way they pitch these books over at Skratch Labs, but you don't have to be an endurance athlete, or any kind of athlete at all, to enjoy being able to cook simple, delicious homemade meals from scratch. I had planned to sell these in the restaurant as a way to promote home cooking of real food. So now I am. What's the deal?

In another life I partnered with , among others, Dr. Allen Lim and Chef Biju Thomas to start a little company called Skratch Labs. Our main product was an all natural sports drink that Dr. Lim developed for the professional cyclists he was coaching for events like the Tour de France and the Olympics. But these guys got together and wrote three amazing cookbooks that served to help promote our message of the benefits of eating real food made from scratch. The Feed Zone was the first and is the best place to start. Keep reading for a little more info on each book that I copy and pasted directly from the Skratch Labs website:

The FEED ZONE

Eat like the pros. Feed Zone meals are the perfect balance of science and practice from Dr. Allen Lim and Chef Biju Thomas. With refreshingly simple ingredients that measure up to the demands of training and racing, these recipes are easy to follow and big on flavor. The tantalizing mix of salty, sweet, and savory satisfies an athlete's cravings and prepares the body for top performance.

When Dr. Allen Lim left the lab to work with pro cyclists, he found a peloton weary of food. The sport's elite athletes were underperforming on bland far and processed bars and gels. So Lim set out to make eating delicious and practical. His journey took him inside the kitchens of Tour de France and delivered him to a dinner party where he met celebrated chef Biju Thomas.

Chef Biju and Dr. Lim vetted countless meals with the world's best endurance athletes. Now they share their energy-packed, wholesome recipes to make your meals easy to prepare, delicious to eat, and better for your performance.

PORTABLES

When Dr. Allen Lim left the lab to work with pro cyclists, he found athletes weary of processed bars and gels and the same old pasta. So Lim joined professional chef Biju Thomas to make eating delicious and practical. Their groundbreaking Feed Zone Cookbook brought the favorite recipes of the pros to everyday athletes.

It's not often that a sequel turns out as good as the original (Remember Ghostbusters 2? Neither do we.) But the new Feed Zone Portables Cookbook may just be the rare exception to that rule.

In their new cookbook Feed Zone Portables, Chef Biju and Dr. Lim offer 75 all-new and ALL PORTABLE food recipes for cyclists, runners, triathletes, mountain bikers, climbers, hikers, and backpackers. Each real food recipe is simple, delicious, easy to make—and ready to go on your next ride, run, climb, or hike.

Feed Zone Portables keeps all the most popular features of The Feed Zone Cookbook including quick and easy recipes for athletes, beautiful full-color photographs of every dish, complete nutrition data, tips on why these are the best foods for athletes, and time-saving ways on how to cook real food every day.

Try out new rice cakes, two-bite pies, griddle cakes, waffles, baked eggs, sticky bites, rice balls, paninis, cakes, and cookies. Wherever you go, these real foods can easily come with you and will nourish your best performance.

FEED ZONE TABLE

family-style meals to nourish life and sport

Join us for dinner! Chef Biju Thomas and Dr. Allen Lim have returned to the kitchen to champion the most social meal of the day. In their new cookbook Feed Zone Table, Biju and Allen offer 100 all-new dinner recipes to bring friends and family to the table.

"Chef Biju and I wrote the Feed Zone Cookbook and Feed Zone Portables for anyone interested in improving athletic performance. So when we heard that people who don’t necessarily consider themselves athletes were using our cookbooks because they wanted simple, healthy recipes to share with their friends and family, we were pleasantly surprised . . . and inspired.

For us, neither sports nor nutrition is solely about performance. The reality is that we value activity and food not just because we want to perform better but also because both have this amazing ability to bring people together, to give us pleasure, and to feed our souls." ~ Dr. Allen Lim
